Our History

In 1973, a small group of Christians united to found a New Testament Church.  They began as a Tuesday night Bible study group taught by Bob Warren, Pastor of Hope Evangelical Free Church in Springfield.  Sunday services began the first Sunday of Advent, November 24, 1973.  Incorporation by Charter followed in February, 1974.  The first services were held in the Odd Fellows Hall, which they tried to buy without success for the first permanent meeting place.  It was then necessary to meet in the Farm Bureau Building, as well as at West School

When Davis Memorial Christian Church decided to build a new church building, they sold their current building at 319 South Washington Street to the Taylorville Evangelical Free Church, with joint occupancy for six months.

We are affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America and locally with the Great Lakes District.

In the early years, the pulpit was filled by retired or student pastors, with our first full-time minister coming to us in the fall of 1974. Through the years, TEFC has seen many changes, but God has continued to bless us, supplying godly men to serve in this capacity.  Currently, Pastor Don Beetem serves as our Lead Pastor and Jonathan Sorensen serves as our Co-Pastor.

Taylorville Evangelical Free Church strives to uphold the beliefs of the denomination and serve the community as a beacon of light to a dark world.  May God bless this church with many more years of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ!
